About our events- the meetup debut in particular

To all those who have RSVP'd for this meetup- first of all I just want to take a moment to wish you all a happy holiday and a happy new year!   I just wanted to say a couple quick things about this event.

You may or may not be familiar with The Harrisburg Midtown Arts Center aka HMAC.  And for those of you who are familiar with the venue you may recall it as a sort of bar/stage/nightclub type of room.  That is known as The Stage on Herr.  Over the past year or so they have expanded that facility to include a restaurant and big room.   We will be in the restaurant area.  It is accessible via the stage room, but it is best to enter through the new entrance on 3rd.  I will try to put up a sign/banner by the entrance.

Something important to say about the fact that the venue is a restaurant is that I think it would be quite inappropriate to bring any food or drinks to the event.  Please know that there is no business taking place between HMAC and me nor anyone else involved in the project.  No money is changing hands, there is no agreement for me to promote or encourage people to do business with the restaurant.  But I think since they have allowed us to come we should get our food and drinks as desired from their restaurant/bar.   So please, if you do want food or drink show respect and appreciation for their hospitality and silent participation.

The second thing is- I am thrilled to see the level of interest we have in this group and this debut event.  I am certainly excited to see what you all do with the canvases.  Please know that (for now anyway) this project and these events are out-of-pocket.  I want to keep these events free and public.  Ursula and I are going to be working to get sponsors and donations.  For now I do have a good deal of paint and supplies.  We are pretty good to go.  If you want to bring paint to use that would be great- it would ensure we don't run out and offset the cost of this event and subsequent events.  If you want to chip in a a few cents or a few dollars or even a gift card for Jo-Ann or Michael's that would be great.  Every little bit helps.  If you can't do either that is totally fine!  First and foremost these events are here to enjoy and there will never be a fee to participate.

If you do decide to bring paint please bring water-based paint.  Acrylic paint is preferred, water color is welcome.  Sorry, but for now oil-based paints cannot be allowed.  They dry too slow and the presence of the cleaners present risks and liabilities we cannot manage or accommodate due to their hazardous properties.

I think that is about it.  There was one other thing but it can't be that important.  :-)  The most important thing is to have fun when you arrive!
